Mini-Phyling V1
Mini-Phyling V1
Overview
A Mini-Phyling is 18 g of electronics designed to fit onto any existing equipment. Once connected to sensors, it records locally or streams data in real time over Bluetooth. It is the versatile, miniature tool.
All Mini-Phyling units up to serial number 361 are V1.

Technical specifications
| Feature | Value |
|---|---|
| Dimensions | 57x34x11 mm |
| Weight | 18 g |
| Battery life | 5 h (without additional sensors) |
| Connectivity | Bluetooth (BLE) |
| Sampling rate | Up to 200 Hz |
| Onboard sensors | 3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis gyroscope |
Quick start
Press the ON/OFF button briefly to turn it on; the LED turns green. It connects to the Maxi-Phyling automatically. To start a local recording on the SD card, press the REC button; the LED then turns blue. Recording to the SD card and sending data over Bluetooth are independent.
LED color code
- 🟢 Green: the sensors are ready, the Mini-Phyling is ready to start a recording
- 🔵 Blue: the Mini-Phyling is recording data to its SD card
- 🔴 Red: there is a problem.
- Light blue blinking: the sensor is connected to a Maxi-Phyling
- Red blink of 0.5 s every 3 s: less than 25% battery remaining
Power on and recording
- To turn the Mini-Phyling on or off, press the ON/OFF button
- To start or stop a recording on the SD card, press the REC button
Warning
Make sure to stop the recording before turning off the unit, so that you do not lose data.
Data is saved automatically every 5 minutes. So, if the unit loses power or is switched off, only the last 5 minutes of recording are lost.
Charging
The Mini-Phyling can only be charged with the magnetic power cable supplied by Phyling. An LED next to the charger indicates when the Mini-Phyling is charging and turns off when charging is complete.
Inertial measurement unit (IMU)
The IMU returns 6 values (accelerations and angular velocities along the 3 directions). The axes of the unit are defined in the following diagram. For any application where positioning matters, make sure to place the unit with the X axis pointing in the direction of travel.

Data retrieval
Over Bluetooth, data is sent in real time to the Maxi-Phyling.
On the SD card, simply take the SD card out of the unit and retrieve the CSV files directly. The files carry a number corresponding to the recording number and to the Mini-Phyling reference.
| T | adc1 | acc_x | acc_y | acc_z | gyro_x | gyro_y | gyro_z |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 311961 | 1516 | 0.671 | 0.805 | -0.323 | -28.700 | 9.590 | 7.000 |
| 311990 | 1512 | 0.478 | 0.784 | -0.436 | -52.990 | 3.710 | 16.170 |
The first column T is the time in milliseconds since the Mini-Phyling was powered on, and the other columns are the collected data (IMU, force sensor, etc.). In the example above, there is 1 force sensor (column adc1) and an IMU with the 3 accelerations (acc_x, acc_y, acc_z in g) and the 3 angular velocities of the gyroscope (gyro_x, gyro_y, gyro_z in deg/s).
Configuration
Mini-Phyling units are configured at the Phyling workshop. For any change, contact the Phyling team.
